New research shows that 88% of Americans worry about their homes getting burglarized, yet only 22% have a home alarm system.  The survey was conducted by Russell Research, commissioned by FrontPoint Security.  Furthermore, survey results also show that 65% of Americans believe that most home alarm systems can be defeated by cutting the phone line, which may be a factor in their decision not to purchase such a system.  However, FrontPoint has initiated efforts to educate homeowners about other options like cellular-only systems and GSM back-up, which can keep their home and family safe.

“Over 90% of existing home security systems depend on the phone line to connect with the monitoring center,” said Peter Rogers, COO of FrontPoint Security.  “If a burglar cuts the outside phone line, then these systems can’t send an alert to the alarm company, leaving the home susceptible to burglary and other crimes.”

To combat this previously mentioned scenario,  there are wireless home alarm systems that operate over a cellular network, which cannot be disabled by cutting an outdoor phone wire, making them safer than traditional systems.  Home Security Store has such systems.  To read more about what is GSM, please click here.
